RINGÖN PARADISE
Master thesis project
This is an overview, download the full report to read the complete thesis project with in depth introduction, initial research, project framework, prototype proposals, and analysis / reflection (in Swedish)

The website I created for the project serves as a key communication tool — both to support discussions with people on Ringön and to reach a wider audience beyond those I meet in person. It includes an overview page with brief information about each project, a page continuously updated with drawings and details, an introduction page, and a contact form.
INTRODUCTION
Ringön is an industrial area in Gothenburg where traditional businesses such as shipbuilders and car mechanics coexist with artists, musicians, creative agencies, and breweries. The area is characterized by reuse, a ”Do-it-yourself” culture, and a vibrant underground scene with graffiti, raves, illegal clubs, and alternative concerts. No residential developments are planned, as the goal is to preserve the area’s character through organic development led by local actors.
This thesis explores how to work with a place where local actors drive the development while prioritizing sustainability in the era of the climate crisis.
The work began with mapping materials for reuse and identifying potential project sites in Ringön. Throughout the process, discussions with local actors were conducted to understand their needs and perspectives on the area. Based on this, a flexible framework was developed, where all project proposals are based on local materials and the needs of the community. The ideas are initially presented as simple sketches, leaving space for local actors to influence and contribute to the further development of the projects.
The sketching process resulted in prototypes of various scales and focuses – from functional solutions addressing issues in the area to experimental ideas exploring specific materials.
