Design of an entrance pavilion/meeting place with a stage at the Nordbygg 2024 construction fair.
Boards are traditionally stored in timber yards ("Brädgård") around Sweden, which takes time and space. This project proposes that the storage and drying take place at the Nordbygg 2024 fair in a designed form. Instead of looking into the future, our proposal return to the basis of wood and show its structural potential by presenting the raw product in standard lengths to avoid interventions such as drilling or cutting. With small adjustments and respect for the material, we create a fully circular pavilion that inspires others to explore the possibilities of wood.

Visitors get the chance to experience the smell, sound and feel of wood for a deeper understanding of the material. Brädgård offers seating in different directions, height variations and shifts to create a dynamic space. Entrances in all directions relate to the fair's entrances and focal points. The space is designed for natural movement but also offers defined spaces for lectures, spontaneous meetings and intimate group discussions.

Our strategy has been to create the highest possible quality with minimal resources. By using only planks and strapping, we have created a pavilion with high architectural quality that also inspires visitors. The circular idea is central to our project and has guided the development of the concept. We take the drying process and give it a designed form and function. This provides flexibility for reuse, either by dismantling the pavilion to reassemble it on another site, using its parts separately on new sites, or selling all the materials as reusable building materials.

We are convinced that this proposal is highly feasible. The design is simple and follows the logic of the timber yard, where planks are stacked with inserted battens vertically. To secure the construction, the different units are clamped together with straps to prevent movement.
